Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), where the atomic bomb that ended World War II was developed, has been a principal US energy research lab since. Its principal focus has been on nuclear energy sources, in particular for national defense. Consequently, the cold fusion announcement had a major impact on the lab and its researchers.
Just two months after the March 23 announcement, LANL held a major event termed the Workshop on Cold Fusion Phenomena. It was conducted in Santa Fe, New Mexico on May 23 to 25. It brought together about 500 scientists from around the world. Approximately 43 presentations were made in five technical sessions. The Workshop was recorded in a series of 15 videos, which are referenced below.
